Politicians such as Jefferson Davis and his resolutions played a major role in American history up to and during the civil war. His six resolutions mainly focus on slavery in each territory, how the Congress and Senate should go about this, and how each state in the Union decides to permit or deny slavery. The main goal that he was trying to achieve was to unite both the Northern and the Southern states with a pro-slavery touch. Unfortunately, these resolutions seemed to have done the opposite and caused a split between the north and the south.

These resolutions had a great impact in creating the Confederate States which Davis was a president of. Davis’ resolutions motivated the states to secede from the Union and join together by creating the Confederate states. These states formed when Mississippi seceded from the Union. These Resolutions also paved the way for the civil war to occur faster. The Confederate States were mainly consisting of the Southern states who were pro-slavery and the Federals consisted of the Northern states who were anti-slavery, and this civil war mainly focused on the issue of slavery.
